Life Lessons: A letter to my younger, 22-year-old self

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all of my April-born readers! Earlier this week I turned 27, which prompted a lot of introspection as to where I am at in life. Most notably, I’ve come to realize certain life lessons that I wish I could have learned a little earlier. Therefore, as part of this reflection, I decided to write a letter to my younger, 22-year-old self. If you are at a similar transitional point in your life, I hope that some of these might resonate with you. Dear 22-Year-Old Me,  I know how you’re feeling right now. Everything in your life is …Keep Reading

Noteworthy Articles: April Showers Edition

Are you already sick of my word play on “April showers” yet? Sorry about that! If Chicagoland would just stop raining, I wouldn’t have rain on my mind. In fact, it’s pouring as I write this post! It probably also doesn’t help that I LOVE dreary, rainy days. I embrace my introversion tendencies, what can I say? This week I wanted to share with you a few noteworthy articles I came across that hit home for me. In a perfect world, all of these articles would have been written this week. However, the world and my life are both far from …Keep Reading

Eight fun things my friends should know about me

Welcome to the new site for my blog – danikate.com! I’m so excited to bring you along on this journey with me. Blogging is something I have been wanting to do for years, but I’ve never been able to find my niche. I’d like to take danikate.com and write about things I’m truly passionate about – books, television, coffee, introversion, and life as I’ve experienced it. I read a quote by Natalie Goldberg recently that I hope to use as motivation for this blog once I get my feet wet, so to speak: Write what disturbs you, what you fear, …Keep Reading

Invasion of the sister & BFF

As strange as it may be, my sister and I share a best friend. They’ve been friends since the ripe old age of three, and I have since adopted her BFF into my close circle. One of my favorite things about living alone is that I don’t have to coordinate around roommates when my sister and best friend come to visit from out of town. This is important for a number of reasons: We are LOUD when we are in the same location and haven’t seen each other in a few months. We stay up long past the time when considerate people should …Keep Reading

How an INFJ feels about reading

This is perhaps the most accurate thing I’ve ever read about my love of books and reading… INFJs are often very passionate about reading. They enjoy all types of reading materials, whether that be an imaginative fantasy story, a serious non-fiction book, or even researching in depth information online. They enjoy the feeling of being engrossed in a good book and love the time alone to take it all in. Books are a big part of the INFJs life, and a big part of who they are. They also love researching new subjects online and absorbing as much knowledge as …Keep Reading

An extroverted introvert in a [not so] lonely world…

Growing up I always felt a little different than the people that surrounded me. I felt like I was a little too independent, a little too unorthodox, a little too inside my head. Don’t get me wrong. I loved being with my friends and belonging to my dance studio. However, the constant activity and surge of adrenaline I enjoyed so much also inexplicably drained me. The only way I could recharge was to be by myself, or at least retreat inside my imagination, for hours on end, usually by reading books. It wasn’t until much later when I was in …Keep Reading
